The fix was to create a systemd file in package.use and add lzma to use flag.

Your build log shows "-Ddefault-compression=xz" being passed to meson setup.

The ebuild does not set this. I suspect you have set it in MYMESONARGS.

I've gone ahead and updated the wiki page to mention the need for USE=lzma more explicitly.
