Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Actual Results:
needed to manually create the device nodes
mknod /dev/md0 b 9 0
mknod /dev/md1 b 9 1
...

Expected Results:
should have been there by default
Comment 1 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-19 11:00:57 UTC
This is mentioned not only in the release notes for x86, but also in the Handbook.

This is a function of udev.
Comment 2 Karl H 2006-03-16 12:44:20 UTC
Why can the mknod not be in the device node tarball? or on boot the device nodes are created automaticly...
mknod /dev/md0 b 9 0
mknod /dev/md1 b 9 1

IIRC Other distros do this.

Everytime i boot into rescue mode with the live cd, or start a new install. Even 2006.0 i have to manually create the dev nodes.

We don't use the tarball on our CDs is probably a start.
