Asked about this on r/Gentoo a couple of days ago, but haven't received any responses:

i'm trying to get Openshot working. Utilising the patches described in https://bugs.gentoo.org/876397, Openshot successfully starts, and things seem to work overall.

However, when previewing a video, there's no audio. Nevertheless, exporting the video produces a file with an audible audio component.

Right-clicking on the track in the timeline, then selecting Volume > Entire clip > 100%, makes no difference.

i'm using PipeWire as my sound server, and have only minimal issues with audio playback in general. (The main issue is significantly choppy playback of Firefox audio to a Bluetooth speaker, but that's still an improvement over my experiences of Pulse.) However, when previewing in Openshot, opening up pavucontrol doesn't even list Openshot under 'Playback'.

It is sad to read that you have problems with the software. The situation seems to be a bit more complicate and requires some analysis.
We can not help you efficiently via bug tracker. The bug tracker aims rather on specific problems in .ebuilds and less on individual systems. 

I have had very good experience on the gentoo IRC [1] with questions like this. Of course there are also forums and mailing lists [2,3].
I hope you understand, that I will close the bug here therefore and wish you good luck on one of the mentioned channels [4].
Please reopen the ticket in order to provide an indication for an specific error in an ebuild or any gentoo related product.

Sorry i've taken so long to respond!

Okay, fair enough; i'll try posting on the forums. Sometimes synchronous communication such as IRC can be tricky for this sort of stuff due to my timezone - i'm in eastern Australia - but if i can't resolve the issue via the forums, i'll give IRC a go.

Thanks to i-garrison and kurly on #gentoo, this problem is now solved: the `pipewire` package needed to have been built with the `pipewire-alsa` USE flag due to Openshot's use of FFmpeg and ALSA.
