In the howto, its states fixes, and they are to make sure that I have at least certain package versions, but the ones it recommends don't even exist anymore.  The section is obsolete.

Its in the table "fixes".  I believe the note to reinstall packages that link statically to these is also fit to be removed.

Also, it mentions a problem fixed in 2002, I doubt many are still experiencing this one :-) (glibc)

Thanks for reporting. I've removed some of the obsoleted information from the guide now.
