If you cannot reproduce this and it fails at different places, then it looks like a flaky hardware. Did you run memtest? I've got the same bug today, in the same place. What more: i've got same "similar" bug before it. Before bootstrap i was running memtest for an hour, and it didn't show any problems. And on the third try the whole process had hang up so i have'nt got any logs.... Installation options were quite similar (minimal livecd 2005.0. only difference was that i've set march flag to athlon-xp)Please help. As suggested, I run memtest86 for 3 hours, no errors appeared. Chipset says SiS 630. OK. Assigned to the gurus. ;-) I have similar error when tying to bootstrap; fails with profiledbootstrap. I can reproduce it everytime with the same error at the same spot. Ran memtest with no errors and have tried several use opimazition flags. cpu is AMD athlon 750, 256mb ram Same here. Retried emerge -e system 5 times and got 3 different errors. Run memtest, passed succesfully 3 times. Here is the last one: [...]/var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.5/work/build-default-i686-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/stdlib/mbstowcs.og {standard input}: Assembler messages: {standard input}:2440: Error: junk at end of line, first unrecognized character is `:' make[2]: *** [/var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.5/work/build-default-i686-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/stdlib/mbstowcs.og] Error 1 make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.5/work/glibc-2.3.5/stdlib' make[1]: *** [stdlib/subdir_lib] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/glibc-2.3.5/work/glibc-2.3.5' make: *** [all] Error 2 !!! I wasn't that convinced about memtest (instinct?) so i downloaded latest and rerun it twice. Showed me buggy memory. Nuked the bad bank, wiped out the distfiles dir and now i'm re-emerging the whole system. Seems going flawlessy for now, gcc and glibc passed. For me this is solved. |
