Description Brett I. Holcomb 2005-04-10 17:56:30 UTC
I obtained the Cicsco vpn client from my employer who is a big user of Cisco gear. It's the linux version 4.6 client.

My normal procedure has been to upgrade the kernel, then run Cisco's vpn_install and the module is created. I run the /etc/init.d/vpn_client from /etc/conf.d/local.start and local.stop to start and stop it. This has worked well until now. It's been working on the 2.6.x kernel series until the last couple of builds - maybe 2.6.10 something? I only run the stable Gentoo-sources (used to be gentoo-dev-sources). The /etc/init.d/vpn_client start/stop work well but when I attempt to connect with vpnclient "my profile" the system hangs completely.

Cisco vpn client is known to break some random kernels every now and then. Try to downgrade the kernel.

(The Cisco VPN client is a closed source product)
Comment 2 Brett I. Holcomb 2005-04-10 19:09:50 UTC
Uh, downgrade is not an option. I guess I'll wait and see if it works on the next one.

Yes, it's closed source but it's all I've got to get to my employer's network when I'm off-site. It's what they tell me to use so I do. Anything else (if there is anything else) won't be supported.

Is this about net-misc/cisco-vpnclient-3des? Looks like mis-assigned bug then. Also, still a problem, even w/ 4.7 or 4.8?
Comment 4 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-05 14:21:02 UTC
Have you had a chance to try newer versions?
Comment 5 Brett I. Holcomb 2006-09-05 16:20:57 UTC
Unfortunately, not at this point. Life keeps interfering with things like computing <G>. I have to do this on my own time and as you very well know - that can be short. I'll put it on the list to do.
Comment 6 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-02-07 23:44:28 UTC
Since I cannot verify this myself, I'm marking it as NEEDINFO. Feel free to REOPEN it if you have the time to work on it with me.
Comment 7 Brett I. Holcomb 2007-02-07 23:49:43 UTC
Thanks for the effort. I never got to work on it due to time constraints and I'm not running Gentoo anymore.

Thanks.
