there recently was a transition from virtual/* packages to app-alternatives/*

app-backup/grub-btrfs still depends on virtual/awk but it is not in the portage tree any more. instead there is app-alternatives/awk

~ # eix virtual/awk

this means you probably currently can't install grub-btrfs and world updates lead to this error:

Fixed for app-alternatives/awk and app-alternatives/yacc
