Tested dev-ruby/fxruby-1.2.2 for ~amd64 This version failed with an -fPIC error on: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -shared -L'/usr/local/lib' -Wl,-R'/usr/local/lib' -L'/usr/lib64' -Wl,-R'/usr/lib64' -o fox12.so librb.o core_wrap.o dc_wrap.o dialogs_wrap.o frames_wrap.o fx3d_wrap.o FXRbApp.o FXRbDataTarget.o FXRbGLViewer.o FXRuby.o iconlist_wrap.o icons_wrap.o image_wrap.o impl.o label_wrap.o layout_wrap.o list_wrap.o markfuncs.o mdi_wrap.o menu_wrap.o scintilla_wrap.o table_wrap.o text_wrap.o treelist_wrap.o ui_wrap.o -Wl,-R -Wl,/usr/lib64 -L/usr/lib64 -L. -lruby18 -lfxscintilla -lFOX-1.2 -lGLU -lGL -lX11 -lXext -ltiff -ljpeg -lz -lpng -lstdc++ -ldl -lcrypt -lm -lc /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: /usr/lib64/libfxscintilla.a(libfxscintilla_la-ScintillaFOX.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC /usr/lib64/libfxscintilla.a: could not read symbols: Bad value collect2: ld returned 1 exit status This appears to be a fxscintilla problem, see below. Note also that fxruby-1.2.4 also failed, similar error. Note that bug 88924 (http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88924) seems to have several implications for this. I had to downgrade my fox from 1.4 to 1.2 to get fxscintilla to even build so that I could even try to test fxruby - but that isn't fxruby's fault. However, it might be best to leave this bug as is until 88924 is resolved and we can retest.
