After a long time digging through the lirc-list I finally found that there is a livedrive_midi driver available with lirc 0.7.0, the version currently available in portage.  However, the only documentation I found on setting up the driver was in the comments of the ebuild file and livedrive_midi was not listed.  It would have saved me several days debugging and searching to have had it listed in the ebuild.  I dont know all the standards in place for ebuilds but I think it would probably been easier for it to have outputed by the ebuild.  That's my 2cents.  Hopes this helps.  

Note:  this may need to be posted else where but I can confirm that the driver does work on my system.  If you need any more information about my system's setup feel free to contact me.
