Description Christian Güdel 2005-03-27 01:47:11 UTC
The gnome-volume-applet works fine as long as I don't try to listen to music with Rhythmbox or try to play Doom
Comment 1 Christian Güdel 2005-03-27 01:47:11 UTC
The gnome-volume-applet works fine as long as I don't try to listen to music with Rhythmbox or try to play Doom³. It says: "Volume Control" has quit unexpectedly. Then I can reload it, and it's fine as long as I start another program that uses sound.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge gnome-2.10 and rhyhtmbox on amd64
2. place a volume-applet in your panel
3. start rhythmbox and listen to a radio stream
4. as soon as you doubleclick on the stream and rhythmbox begins to play, the volume-applet will crash

Actual Results:
The volume-control dies and I can reload it

Expected Results:
It should not die.

Comment 2 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-27 06:31:31 UTC
can you get a backtrace with debugging info of the crashing applet ?
Comment 3 Christian Güdel 2005-03-27 08:04:34 UTC
i don't know how to start the applet manually from the console...
Comment 4 Dave Shanker 2005-05-03 21:52:52 UTC
Run /usr/libexec/mixer_applet2 from console. FYI, In order to enable debug mode, you will need to recompile gnome-base/gnome-applets with the debug USE flag set like so:

export USE='debug' && emerge -av gnome-base/gnome-applets

Regards,
Comment 5 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-05-07 03:37:23 UTC
also i would be a bit more conservative on the CFLAGS to start with.

Any of the amd64 folk able to reproduce ?

I emerged rythmbox, and it worked.. No crash of the gnome app.. Needed info:

please provide the backtrace we requested, we cannot reproduce and need more to
work with.
Comment 8 Christian Güdel 2005-06-04 15:17:21 UTC
sorry about that, but I reinstalled the whole system and it seems to work now
without problems.
