The gnome-volume-applet works fine as long as I don't try to listen to music with Rhythmbox or try to play Doom³. It says: "Volume Control" has quit unexpectedly. Then I can reload it, and it's fine as long as I start another program that uses sound. Run /usr/libexec/mixer_applet2 from console. FYI, In order to enable debug mode, you will need to recompile gnome-base/gnome-applets with the debug USE flag set like so: export USE='debug' && emerge -av gnome-base/gnome-applets Regards, also i would be a bit more conservative on the CFLAGS to start with. Any of the amd64 folk able to reproduce ? I emerged rythmbox, and it worked.. No crash of the gnome app..
