emerging thunderbird 1.0.2 isn't working because I couldn't get the source tarball from the mirrors.  I found it here:

http://www.mozilla-enigmail.org/downloads/src/enigmail-0.90.2.tar.gz

downloaded, put in /usr/portage/distfiles/ and it emerged.

Please close.  It's fixed in bug 86623.  Sorry this wasn't described very well.
