in the kdeaddons-3.4.0 ebuild, there is a dependency for kdegames, so gento tries to emerge kdegames when i update kdeaddons. This may not be an issue for most people using the kde meta package as the get the games anyway, but my kde setup includes only a few packages that i use and i don't really want ot have the games package installed. When i change the ebuild manually removing the dependency, kdeaddons emerge fine - so i guess its not really needed there.

Exactly. Use the splitted ebuilds referenced by kdeaddons-meta. The monolithic ebuild stays that way. Atlantikdesigner won't be installed without the dependency.
