Description Luca Lesinigo 2005-03-18 03:45:48 UTC
CUPS Driver for Windows is a unified driver for windows 5.0 and higher, that prints to a samba+cups server in postscript format and understands CUPS PPDs.
It gives the ability to use just one driver for every printer behind a samba+cups server, while still taking advantage of each printers abilities (eg., resolution, double-sided printing, tray selection, etc...) through the PPD system. It can be installed in a samba server so win clients will automagically get it whenever they need.
The ebuild should depend on CUPS, and should uncompress the driver in /usr/share/cups/drivers, so the user will be able to use cupsaddsmb (included in base cups) to install it in the samba server.
It should not depend on samba, since the samba server could be on another system.

The procedure of installation is described there:
"Installing the Windows printer drivers"
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/quick-samba-howto.xml#doc_chap4

Is there really need for an ebuild for that?
Can you please provide one?

Please provide an ebuild or tell me what you really want and reopen

CUPS Driver for Windows 6.0 is now out.

http://www.cups.org/windows/software.php?6.0

we need an ebuild for these files contained in the package:
cups6.inf cups6.ini cups6.ppd cupsps6.dll cupsui6.dll

these should all go in /usr/share/cups/drivers

ebuild:

http://genstef.homelinux.org/local/net-print/cups-windows/cups-windows-6.0.ebuild

But I am not sure if we really need this, billing options? SOunds like something really strange that is only needed in rare cases.

please reopen if we need it.
