Bug 85282 – Rhythmbox crashes or gives error when trying to play mp3's

When I try to play something from within rhythmbox, the program does one of two things - it either crashes or gives one of several errors: "There is no plugin installed to handle a MP3 file" (when I try to use OSS as my sound device) OR "The application quit unexpectedly" (after I switched to ALSA).  If I try to play a file by right-clicking on it in a file browser and selecting "Open with Music Player" I get the error message: "Internal GStreamer error: pad problem. File a bug"


I tried to play a file by using the following command line statement:
prompt> gst-launch-0.8 filesrc location=music.mp3 ! mad ! alsasink

I got the following error:

I have emerged rhythmbox, gstreamer, gst-plugins, libmad, libid3tag, and gst-plugins-alsa.  My sound is set up to use ALSA but not set up for OSS.  I have used XMMS fine to play files, but I cannot get rhythmbox to work.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  Do not have rhythmbox or any gstreamer items installed
2.  Applicable USE flags: alsa, oss, mp3, mad, oggvorbis
3.  emerge rhythmbox
4.  emerge gstreamer
5.  emerge gst-plugins
6.  emerge gst-plugins-alsa
7.  open rhythmbox (Music Player in applications menu) and try to play an mp3 in the media library

Actual Results:  
Rhythmbox crashed, giving one of the errors described above in the description.

Expected Results:  
mp3 file should have played
