When I just tried to emerge bind-tools on a newly installed system, it went through a bit of the configure process, and then it complained that it couldn't determine the object suffix or some similar sounding thing. FEATURES=-distcc makes it happier.

I'm paying more attention to the similar bug,
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84537

By now, I'm thinking that the problem is some combination of autoconf and GCC
build mismatch.
