The new release of esearch doesn't "compile" on OSX 10.3.8.

python is currently masked for macosx, so it's not clear if "readline" support is in the Apple-provided python.

Seems to work on 10.4 for me. For <10.4, you can use the progressive profile and clobber apple provided 
python.
