I agree with this to a point, and we try to keep them the same, but speaking from irc experience and from what i've heard from some of the devs: irc nicks aren't always available, or they want something specific, but they want their email addresses to be a bit more professional then their irc nicks, which i can fully understand. It might be worth aliasing nick@g.o back to their actual user account if that helps you track people better, but i'm not fully sure how to really enforce it unless we provide an alias to go with the account if someone wants their email address to be a bit more sane then their irc nick may be. with account info kept in ldap, is this really an issue ? Perfect example, how many of our devs really know that bonasi is really patrick? Its mainly confusion for those who converse with them on irc and then have no idea who to email when they need to. I suppose we could make aliases for such things, but i'd rather have devrel push new recruits to matching it unless issues like the nick already being taken come up and they don't want to change. New recruits are pushed towards matching nicks, per recruiters, however as Lance pointed out, it is not always an available option. Closing bug. |
