Yeah, OpenSSL 3 is masked everywhere for now as it's not ready yet (too many packages fail to build). Was your system *definitely* fully built against OpenSSL 1.1.x before you decided to try OpenSSL 3? Like, did you just decide to try OpenSSL 3 because of the problems, or had you experimented with it before? (It matters to rule out ABI issues) Could you also please include emerge --info when things are broken? Note that if downgrading from OpenSSL 3, will need to run revdep-rebuild just to be safe. ... and what version of Tor? emerge --info net-vpn/tor (In reply to Sam James from comment #2) > ... and what version of Tor? emerge --info net-vpn/tor System is a headless PI4 running a fully updated, generic ARM64 Systemd Stage3. The only installed software is dev-vcs/git, sudo and TOR. I spent quite some time with a network analyser, debugger and even twiddling OpenSSL 1.1.X USE flags before trying the OpenSSL 3.X upgrade route. It looks like RaspberryPI OS still uses OpenSSL 1.1.X and, given that this is likely a rare use-case and the errors are hidden unless you go looking for them (no obvious user-facing failures) - it may be an esoteric upstream bug. sudo emerge --info net-vpn/tor Portage 3.0.30 (python 3.9.11-final-0, default/linux/arm64/17.0/systemd, gcc-11.2.1, glibc-2.34-r10, 5.15.33-v8+ aarch64) were known issues with openssl 1.x.x in #tor on oftc: 13:30 <+arma> you might be interested to learn about 0.4.7.5-alpha and 0.4.7.6-rc Maybe a bump would be useful here? Have you tried with tor 0.4.6.10 or even 0.4.6.7? Can you share a full tor log (or even just the first and last few dozen lines)?
