Description Jeff Gazso 2022-03-31 01:23:12 UTC
With app-editors/vim-8.2.3741 installed on an aarch64 Raspberry Pi starting vim from the terminal produces the following error:

    E1187: Failed to source defaults.vim
Press ENTER or type command to continue

Hitting enter clears the error, vim loads and appears to work as expected but the message is annoying.

Some Googling lead to a possibly related entry on Red Hat's public Bugzilla[1], and a proposed fix[2]. Please let me know if there is anything else I can attach to this bug to help out.

Interestingly, I'm not seeing the error with app-editors/vim-8.2.4328 on my x86_64 system. I haven't had a chance to build 8.2.4328 on my Pi and see if that revision fixes the issue.

It should sort it out. Need to stable on arm/arm64 which is pending.

Thanks for the report!

Sure thing Sam! I'll try to build 8.2.4328 after I've had some sleep. If all goes well, I'll put in a request for it to be stabilized on arm64.

It's already open but stalled -- my main hardware is down at home & the big server we use needs reinstalling because of maintenance :(

Yep, upgrading to app-editors/vim-8.2.4328-r1 fixed the issue. Since app-editors/vim-8.2.4328-r1 is on its way to being stabilized, I think I can close this bug.
