this is the only part of the howto i have finished so far. i have so much more

I made lots of modifications.  I cleaned up some things I thought were
confusing and I did a bunch of editing to make the doc look like
our other docs.  See

for the current version.  You can use viewcvs's diff generator to
see the specific changes I made:

Two examples are simple "#" prompts and <i>foo</i> markup in shell 
examples.
