Description Michael Hill 2005-02-12 20:20:41 UTC
I'm using the 2004.2 CD image to build a new system, starting with the stage1 tarball. I'm at step 6.d in the x86 handbook. "emerge system" works up through creating a tarball for xorg-x11:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 55218176 Feb 13 03:02 xorg-x11-6.8.0-r4.tbz2

But then it fails with the following error:

./var/
./var/lib/
./var/lib/xdm/
./var/lib/xdm/.keep
./var/lib/xkb/
./var/lib/xkb/README
!!! CATEGORY info missing from info chunk, aborting...

If I try to install the built tarball:

# emerge -K xorg-x11
!!! Invalid binary package: xorg-x11-6.8.0-r4.tbz2
Calculating dependencies
!!! There are no packages available to satisfy: "xorg-x11"
!!! Either add a suitable binary package or compile from an ebuild.

I have tried this about eight times, sometimes removing /var/tmp/portage/* and/or the built package, but get the exact same failure every time.

# emerge info

You're going to have to explain what you're doing a bit better.
If you're using a 2004.2 packages CD, please try a 2004.3 or better.

Have to describe the problem if it is to be fixed.

Closing due to old age
