Description Sylvia 2021-08-27 18:29:35 UTC
Updating dev-qt libraries to 5.15.2-r10 makes qbittorrent
(USE "-X -dbus webui") non functional, instead of opening web interface it offers to download html file.
running update-mime-database does not help.

Downgrading Qt to 5.15.2-r3 solves the problem.

qbittorrent-nox is linked to qtcore, qtnetwork and qtxml libraries

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Sylvia 2021-10-01 08:29:06 UTC
This error still persists, despite qt 5.15.2-r10 has been stabilized.
Comment 2 Sylvia 2021-10-01 08:44:59 UTC
when started with:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib/qt5:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}
export LD_PRELOAD="/usr/local/lib/qt5/libQt5Core.so.5.15.2 /usr/local/lib/qt5/libQt5Network.so.5.15.2 /usr/local/lib/qt5/libQt5Xml.so.5.15.2"
qbittorrent-nox

it works properly, where libraries in /usr/local/lib/qt5/ are from previous build
qtcore-5.15.2-r3
qtnetwork-5.15.2-r2
qtxml-5.15.2-r1

This seems slightly snarky but we are allowed to miss bugs, especially if we’re not maintaining something.

What version of qbittorrent? Can you try the latest in tree (~arch)? Can we have emerge —-info?

thanks for confirming and finding a clue at archlinux forum,
I ve tried their test program, however, as i mentioned above
running update-mime-database does not help

$ /tmp/qt5mimetest
QMimeType("application/x-extension-html")

$ update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime

$ /tmp/qt5mimetest
QMimeType("application/x-extension-html")

with older qt5 builds:

$ export LD_PRELOAD="/usr/local/lib/qt5/libQt5Core.so.5.15.2 /usr/local/lib/qt5/libQt5Network.so.5.15.2 /usr/local/lib/qt5/libQt5Xml.so.5.15.2"

$ /tmp/qt5mimetest
QMimeType("text/html")
Comment 7 Sylvia 2021-10-03 13:31:46 UTC
full cleanup of ~/.local/share/mime
solved the problem, however, it should be done by hand,
update-mime-database doesnt fix it.
Comment 8 Maxxim 2022-10-05 18:45:09 UTC
This still persists and is really nasty as the solution is not very obvious.
Comment 9 Piotr Karbowski (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2022-11-19 15:26:33 UTC
THe linked bug and comment that asturm added to this bug indicate that it's not qbittorrent problem but end-user local configuration that leads to qt doing what it is doing here. There's no action for us here.

Hey there,

I encountered a similar issue with qbittorrent's web UI offering to download HTML files instead of opening them after updating the dev-qt libraries to 5.15.2-r10. It's a perplexing problem indeed.

Based on my experience and knowledge in this domain, it seems that the issue lies with the MIME type configuration. When you update the Qt libraries, it might affect how MIME types are handled. Like here: https://andersenlab.com/services/progressive-web-app-development

A potential solution could be to manually configure the MIME types associated with HTML files. You can do this by checking your system's MIME database and ensuring that ".html" and ".htm" files are correctly associated with a web browser. You can use the xdg-mime tool to manage MIME types on many Linux systems.

Try running this command:

'xdg-mime default <browser.desktop> text/html
Replace <browser.desktop> with the .desktop file of your preferred web browser, like "firefox.desktop" or "chrome.desktop."'

This should tell the system to open HTML files with your web browser instead of prompting a download. Remember to restart your session or clear your browser's cache for changes to take effect.
