Description Chris Lyon 2005-01-30 09:58:31 UTC
I am running sendmail 8.12.11-r3 and have found this problem on many of my machines hence locking the machine up because the log file would be full in a matter of a few hours. A sendmail connection would be nailed up and the log file would be full of this:

Jan 29 01:49:09 smtp sendmail[32091]: STARTTLS: read error=generic SSL error (0)

I can only recreate the problem when someone try's to do a specific type of SSL connection that seems to be doing this. See the URL above for more information.

If you google "STARTTLS: read error=genric SSL error (0)" you will get some hit describing the issue.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
See the URL above. The main problem is the system log files will fill up in a mater of no time
Actual Results:
The system log files will fill up in a mater of no time. If the log partition is
full this stops the system.

Expected Results:

Place this line at the bottom of:
/usr/portage/mail-mta/sendmail/files/site.config.m4

APPENDDEF(`confENVDEF', `-D_FFR_DEAL_WITH_ERROR_SSL')

If you run emerge the errors goes away.
