In /etc/modules.d/alsa it inserts snd-card-via8233 but that should be snd-via8233.

In every install of ALSA I've ever done, u have to hand edit that file, unless
something has changed, that file is not autoconfigured

Alsa ebuild installs a generic modules.d/alsa.  It is not configured for any
particular sound card.  You must be confusing something.

I *Really* wonder how this is configged here then. I must be confusing indeed.
