Description nvaert1986 2021-07-01 07:44:33 UTC
Whenever I insert a USB key with VMware vSphere (ESXi) installed on it (not prepared for setup, but installed onto) in my computer udisks seems to segfault. To exclude the possibility of hardware failure, I've tried 2 different USB sticks in 2 different PC's running Gentoo.

The error I'm receiving is:

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert a USB stick with VMware vSphere (ESXi) installed on it on a system running Gentoo with sys-fs/udisks-2.9.1-r1
2.Run dmesg and observe the error
Actual Results:
The udisksd segfaulting

Expected Results:
A non segfaulting udisksd.

Note: Gnome no longer responds to any mounting or umounting (eject) commands either. The file manager (nautilus) no longer responds either when clicking on the USB key, until I remove the USB key.
Comment 2 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2021-07-03 16:34:58 UTC
Please rebuild dev-libs/glib and sys-fs/udisksd with debug symbols enabled, and get a stack trace from gdb.

Comment 3 nvaert1986 2021-07-12 07:17:14 UTC
The probleem seems to be resolved after upgrading to glib-2.68.3-r1. Just upgraded today, plugged out and plugged in the stick several times.

The kernel does seem to log something on rare occasions though:

[ 3238.109819] traps: udisksd[1531] trap divide error ip:7f16a6f5698a sp:7ffdc7f72aa0 error:0 in libglib-2.0.so.0.6800.2 (deleted)[7f16a6f33000+8a000]

This only happens roughly 1/20 times I plug in the stick, so it can be seen as resolved / works for me.
