dev-util/dialog-1.0-20040731 fails to link to ncursesw library. Sadly dialog is required by alsa-utils for alsamixer.

You are now using "unicode" in your use flags, but ncurses was emerged in the past without "unicode". Just "emerge ncurses" again, than it will work. (Tested and checked here)

I just emerge -u world and that seems to have fixed this issue.

I have same problem. And of course I have ncurses without unicode. I have version which didn't know about USE flag unicode ... isn't it bug in dependencies ?

When I upgraded to sys-libs/ncurses-5.4-r5 (default on ppc as of current) this problem went away.
