For an instance, see bug #74929. This happens with the latest version of portage. Doman properly gzips the manpages.

Just an FYI, this bug is preventing most of the current porting efforts.

Does portage gzip manpages on any OS? I thought it did, but I can't find any code to do so...

it must happen on linux because it does it on every box of mine ;)

The fix for this is already in CVS thanks to ferringb.
Unfortunately, we're still waiting on a release for this to get to our userbase.
To put this in perspective, currently every package that gzips manpages
is broken on OSX pending this bug getting fixed.

*Please* can we get this out soon?
