Nano is used in the stages because of its size. This has been requested several times, but vim is simply too big for the stages and it won't be pulled in. Nano may be limited, but it works and there shouldn't be the need for a highly functionable editor, seeing that it is also possible to use a different editor from outside the chroot. Not only that, but nothing is stopping you from doing an "emerge vim" to pull in vim yourself. Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this. |
