Description Marcos González 2005-01-25 15:40:44 UTC
I had problems using my ISP's news (usenet) server, because it didn't require a username/password autentication, and Evolution 2 seems to dislike it. I was able to access with Pan, anyway.

Well, I really wanted to use Evolution, so I asked in the forums and I was recommended a server that uses a username and password. I configured it, and Evolution asked me a password the first time... and failed again!

It says "Conecting..." forever. I see a peak of 5kb/s for 2 or 3 seconds, and then it stops. I tried deleting and recreating the account 1000 times but nothing. The password is never asked, BTW.

could this be a problem with your news server not using the proper authentication method? If possible, it would help to try another news server that doesn't require username/pw.

see bug 71210 for more info.

I tried using a bogus username, but it fails to autenticate and asks for a password, as it should do.

I've tried several servers. A big list can be found here:
http://usuarios.advance.com.ar/gragry/recursos/servidoresdenoticias.htm

What surprises me is, as I stated before, I own an account that needs a username and password, and entering them, it also fails.

I tried my ISP's server with Pand and no problem.
I tried the Microsoft server msnews.microsoft.com with Pam and no problem.
I tried the account I have in another server with the username and password they gave me, and no problem.

3 servers work with Pam and fail with Evolution 2... If I'm forgetting to do something, i don't know what it is.

2.2.1.1?
