Description David Eger 2005-01-14 12:11:18 UTC
I am trying to send my print jobs to a standard lpd print spooler on a machine yellow.srv.cs.cmu.edu to forward to the printer 'agate'. This worked a couple of months ago, but after upgrading cups, it works no longer. The following is an equivalent RedHat printcap entry:

agate|Agate (HP LaserJet 5SI MX) WeH 5130:\
        :ty=HP LaserJet 5SI MX:\
        :sd=/usr/spool/lpd/agate:\
        :sc:\
        :mx#0:sf:sb:pn:\
        :lp=:rm=yellow.srv.cs.cmu.edu:rp=agate:

how can I get printing to work again?

Reproducible: Always

With /etc/cups/printers.conf as follows, printing seems to work. Navigating
localhost:631 to get this generated was non-obvious at least for several
versions of CUPS. I believe it's better now. it'd be nice if the CUPS config
files would be smart enough so that when it generates a printer location like
"DeviceURI ipp://lpd://magenta.srv.cs.cmu.edu/spectrum/" It would generate loud
errors instead of quietly dying.
