Bug 778983

Summary: sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel-bin:[5.4.*|5.10.*] slow send speed with Intel I219-V

Description ixuz 2021-03-28 17:56:51 UTC
Send speed (means upload/TX) does not reach full Gigabit speed. Tested with iperf3 it hovers around 780Mbit/s max.

This is a known bug. See:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1802691
https://docs.hetzner.com/robot/dedicated-server/troubleshooting/performance-intel-i218-nic/

Disabling TCP segmentation offload via ethtool works as workaround.

As upstream does not seem to fix this, is there any chance we get a Kernel patch from gentoo (like Ubuntu did)?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Use Intel I219-V NIC.
2.Test transmit speed via iperf3 or Samba or whatever.
Actual Results:
Upload speed max 780Mbit/s

Expected Results:
Upload speed should reach around 940Mbit/s.

Thanks for not even responding...

Anyways, in the meantime the bug is fixed by upstream: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Intel-i219-LM-Linux-60p-Fix

I can confirm this, tested with Kernel 6.1.58-gentoo-dist.
