When someone emerges nano, a message should be displayed informing the user of the user guide available from the Gentoo Doc Project and its URL [Nano Basics Guide (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/nano-basics-guide.xml)].
This would help new users to learn nano more easily.

It is the ebuild maintainer's choice to do this or not, but I don't think it should be mandatory.

I never suggested that this be mandatory. I merely came upon this idea, filed a bug about adding this to portage, and was then told that portage-based implementation of this wasn't the way to go about it and that per-package bugs would be more appropriate. With that in mind, I filed this, and other similar bugs. It's up to the maintainer to resolve each bug as they see fit.

i wasnt questioning you, i was just wondering what was up with the sudden surge of 'gdp integration' bugs

i have no problem adding this to nano
