Versions 1.8.5, 1.8.6 and 1.8.7 were released:

According to the changelog: "Added the new ISO/IEC Base Media File Format library MP4P for working with MP4 files, which removes MP4FF dependency"

In this case I'm not sure what to do here. Can it be added to Gentoo or should it be installed with deadbeef together?

This require the usual dive into the code, findling the licenses, unbundling whatever we can unbundle or removing plugins/libs that we cannot bundle and then shipping into the tree. This is not a 5 minute job. It will be added at some time.
