Upstream has joined the manpages-l10n project, so 5.06 is their ultimate release as a separate package, see URL. app-i18n/man-pages-l10n-4.2.0 adds support for L10N="it".

The Gentoo package has no maintainer, and its last version bump (to 4.00) was in 2015. Even considering that documentation packages don't need quite as frequent updates, I'd consider this package as abandoned.

sys-apps/man-pages still depends on sys-apps/man-pages-it both in stable and testing versions. Moreover, Italian support in app-i18n/man-pages-l10n is available only in version 4.2 which is not currently stable.

If needed, I can test it when the testing packages are updated.

In fact, support for Italian (and Spanish) in man-pages-l10n-4.2.0 is still incomplete, and these translations cannot be built (see bug 769314).

Reopening. app-i18n/man-pages-l10n supports Italian now.
