Bug 76203

Summary: The cp437 codepage option under NLS is not set in kernel config; cannot mount vfat partitions

Description Wes Janzen 2004-12-30 20:51:06 UTC
As far as I can tell (from kernel archives) the cp437 option must be enabled in the kernel config to allow vfat or fat partition mounting. According to the config file for the G4 kernel on the ppc livecd 2004.3, it is not set. This is supported by the "cp437 not found" in the logs when I try to mount my flash drive.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Try to mount a vfat or fat partition
2.Look at dmesg for the cp437 message

Actual Results:
An error about cp437 not being found in the log and then a bad "superblock ..."
message from mount.

Expected Results:
Found cp437 and mounted the partition.

Will be changed with the next release.

All nls-options are included as a kernel-module on the 2005.0 ppc LiveCD.

2005.0 has been released, feel free to reopen the bug if you still have problems with the new release.
