Description Jose A. Hernandez 2002-09-06 18:40:47 UTC
For some reason after almost a day or so, the rsync
daemon process stops accepting connections. Everyone who tries to
connect gets a "max connections (20) reached" message, and the log is full of
them too, however, there is no outbound traffic. This has happened twice
now in 2 days and just killing the rsync process won't do. If I kill the rsync
process and start it again, it still says max connections reached. So I
have to kill the process, delete the lock file on the /var/run directory
and then restart the rsync daemon. Only after doing this does the rsync
daemon starts accepting connections again. This may explain some of the
problems ppl are experiencing when doing emerge rsync. I'm running rsync
2.5.5-r1 on a gentoo 1.3b installation.

Please try again with rsync-2.5.6_pre20021105-r1.

I can't see how this could be a Gentoo issue. I'm running an rsync mirror
myself, without any problems at all.

Wow, I didn't even think this was still open and I find it kinda dumb that it
took 4 months for someone to post a comment. Back then a lot of ppl running
mirrors were having this same issue. But that was a LONG time ago and the
problem went away, most likely due to some upgrade. Still, is kind of ammusing
to see this now.
