I would recommend to patch xml file and set group to "wheel". /etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.thermald.conf uses the group "power" to permit policy control around thermald: <policy group="power"> <allow send_destination="org.freedesktop.thermald"/> <allow receive_sender="org.freedesktop.thermald"/> </policy> The group "power" does not exist by default on Gentoo. The ebuild should add the group to the system or patch the XML to use another group.
