Works for me. It'd maybe a good idea to name the exact OOo version, you're using. All the About menu says is that it's version 1.1.3. BTW, this is the case for both of my Gentoo systems, built at completely different times. Try to use oopadmin to specify the included fonts. By default the openoffice ebuilds (not binary) do not include the bitstream fonts as they are allready on the system. Based on what you say, there's a problem with the included fonts, omitting italic for a particular font, no? As Paul already said, the ebuild doesn't provide the bitstream vera fonts at all, so your problem has to be somewhere else. Try to emerge media-fonts/ttf-bitstream-vera see if that helps. Ok, now checked myself, this seems to be a font issue, the ttf-bitstream-vera-package does not seem to provide a italic variant of Bitstream Serif, I don't get one in the Gnome font selection dialog either. @Font-people: Could you please comment on that? The fonts are there, but they're apparently broken in some way. /usr/share/fonts/TTF/VeraIt.ttf /usr/share/fonts/TTF/VeraMoIt.ttf I tried opening one in fontforge and it crashed my X, but not before I saw part of it actually being italic. They come with xorg-x11. Would be bad if they were broken, but it appears to. I don't have the italic serif version either according to xfontsel The reporter talking about serif fonts, there do not seem to be italic serif fonts provided with bitstream-vera . Foser, you're right. These font's don't have italics versions. It could be possible to "create" slanted versions (skewed) but openoffice doesn't' seem to be able do this for you. Maybe the 2.0 version or the ximian version can do this as I believe fontconfig supports it. Note that the result of this is NOT an italics font, as normally italics fonts are not equal to regular fonts, and sometimes rather different. A slanted font is just a font in on which a transformation is applied to the coordinates. Ah, good catch. @ Donnie: btw. What is the future of the bitstream fonts in Gentoo anyway. Cause earlier on the OOo-ebuilds did depend on ttf-bitstream-vera, but then xorg started to provide them by default and I removed that dependency. Now it seems you are going away from providing them by default. So what would be the best thing to do for us? I plan to continue providing them by default in xorg-x11, assuming upstream does the same. Presumably you're referring to the lack of truetype-fonts and type1-fonts in make.defaults of most profiles -- that's simply something I haven't gotten to yet (my vacation's getting in the way), not something I plan to leave that way. It seems quite odd to me that an office suite requires a particular set of fonts, anyhow. |
