Please keep GoldenDict, it's a great program and it work with current Gentoo portage flawlessly. What's the reason of removing a perfectly working application that has no alternatives? (In reply to Igor Franchuk from comment #4) > Please keep GoldenDict, it's a great program and it work with current Gentoo > portage flawlessly. What's the reason of removing a perfectly working > application that has no alternatives? Because it had obsolete dependencies in the last release, preventing removal of unmaintained software: https://github.com/goldendict/goldendict/issues/953#issuecomment-728544352. That's the incorrect/old report. GoldenDict is alive and compiles and works with the latest Gentoo. Please keep it until it's actually not working. It compiled and WORKED out of the box. I can share the screen-shots. * app-text/goldendict Latest version available: 1.5.0_rc2-r2 Latest version installed: 1.5.0_rc2-r2 Size of files: 18,959 KiB Homepage: http://goldendict.org/ GoldenDict is a flawless app, it works/compiles under the recent gcc and has no crashes. What else can we expect? Let it be until it stops either compiling or working. Old libraries that work all so not a problem. I have a lot of problems with the modern libraries/applications to working under the recent Gentoo. But they're not removed. But this app works. Please keep it, it's a pretty cool app. It supports a lot of dictionaries, it's fast, nice looking and I see no problems with it at all. Unlike some modern apps. :-) Let it live until it can't be compiled/patched. (In reply to Michał Górny from comment #3) > Package removed. I agree with everything what Igor Franchuk said. GoldenDict is not dead and it just works for me. It compiles without any problem at least with gcc. And it has no alternatives. I was really upset when you removed this package from official Gentoo portage tree. I still use GoldenDict but from unofficial portage now. And I don't think that is the best solution. Yes, progress of GoldenDict project is very slow now but it doesn't mean that the project is dead. Yes, it has some old dependencies but it isn't too bad. For me it's a usual situation especially when there are no big problems with it. Maybe I don't know something I'm not sure. eix goldendict [I] app-text/goldendict [1] Available versions: 1.5.0_rc2-r2 {debug ffmpeg} Installed versions: 1.5.0_rc2-r2(14:53:12 24/03/21)(ffmpeg -debug) Homepage: http://goldendict.org/ Description: Feature-rich dictionary lookup program [1] "powerman" /var/lib/layman/powerman Release GoldenDict version 1.5.0 https://github.com/goldendict/goldendict/releases/tag/1.5.0 |
