emerge binutils builds /usr/share/info/standards.info.gz (57805 bytes), which is
a GNU info file that explains the philosophy of FSF. This release of the
document was last updated February 14, 2002 (according to the actual content of
the document).

emerge xemacs builds a second copy of /usr/share/info/standards.info.gz which
has a *different* size (49919 bytes) and was last updated February 21, 2001.
Note that this version is older than the one supplied with binutils.

It's clear to me that the collision is quite innocuous and should be easy to fix
for those who understand how ebuilds work (I'm a noob, so I don't really
understand portage yet).

$ equery f binutils | grep standards
/usr/share/binutils-data/i686-pc-linux-gnu/2.15.92.0.2/info/standards.info
/usr/share/binutils-data/i686-pc-linux-gnu/2.16.1/info/standards.info

Assuming fixed, please reopen if this is still a problem and attach the output
of 'equery b /usr/share/info/standards.info.gz' and post which binutils
version(s) you have currently installed.
