During the build of a new 1.4beta system, the 'emerge system' failed in (I
believe) the bash step because autoconf had not been merged.  I did 'emerge
autoconf' and then restarted 'emerge system'.  Success.  I'm running from the
system now.

Seemant already added autoconf as dep to bash.
