Description Thomas Weidner 2004-11-22 08:43:12 UTC
Hi,

I suggest to limit the number of packages in gentoo, as developer ressources are limited and so many bugs stay open for a long time or get never fixed or get fixed silently. So seldom used/exotic/.. packages should be dropped or not even enter portage. I think it is reasonable to do this, but perhaps most people disagree. OK, perhaps you say if some nice gentoo user submits a ebuild for package X it should enter gentoo, but will the user maintain his ebuild? will he fix bugs and submit new versions or will this be a task for the gentoo developers? If he will everythings fine and there a new package in gentoo, but if not gentoo developers will have extra work to do or the package will simply be unmaintained, which decreases the quality of gentoo. I think a closer package/developer binding has been discussed already,i must admit i did not follow the discussion.

This isn't the right forum to discuss policy changes. Take this to the mailing list or forums. Thanks.
