Description Florian Pressler 2004-11-18 00:49:33 UTC
Version 0.14 of mime-shared-info causes known problems with the latest version of Gnome (2.8). As Gentoo provides the newest version of Gnome (2.8), it should also make use of the newest version of mime-shared-info.

The problem occurs when trying to open wmv-files in Gnome. A detailed description of the problem is found in http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=160047

The bug is also described at the freedesktop-site at http://freedesktop.org/bugzilla/long_list.cgi?buglist=397 This is the page of the project shared-mime-info. Problem is, as the site was compromised recently, you can't have a look at it now (probably in google-cache). Nevertheless - the bug was marked as fixed there, with the solution to upgrade to 0.15

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Try to open a wmv-file under Gnome.
Actual Results:
There is an errormessage saying it's unsecure to open the file.

Expected Results:
Open the file.

0.15 has been in the tree for a long time, but it is masked because while it fixes some problems(such as this one which is a know problem), it causes others. Hopefully the next release will be free of both these issues and able to be added.

check bug #66195 for info on why it was masked.
