![]() If you saved your 6.8.0-r2 (perhaps via quickpkg), grep it for ^PATCH_VER. Same for -r4. What am I grepping...the binary package, unpacked source, or installed files? -r2 was PATCH_VER="0.2.7" and -r4 is PATCH_VER="0.2.8" The only changes are updating a patch for Newport cards and adding a security patch to libXpm. The error message suggests a Firefox bug. "The program 'firefox-bin' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program." Assigning to them. If they can show it's our problem, they can assign it back. You might want to actually try doing as they suggest in the error message, --sync + gdb. what version of firefox ? Firefox was 1.0-r2. I upgraded to 1.0-r3 to see if that would take care of it...it didn't. I downgraded xorg back to 6.8.0-r2 and it still didn't fix it. I disabled the Composite and Render extensions (I had enabled both at the same time I upgraded xorg to -r4). With those disabled, the firefox crashes seem to have stopped. I'll file a bug with the mozilla team. Nevermind, I see this bug has already been reassigned to the mozilla team :) Try specifically disabling composite for that application by setting the handy environment variable XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1. Should I go back to xorg-6.8.0-r4 and enabled Composite and Render globally in xorg.conf again? It _should_ be independent of whether you're using -r2 or -r4 if it's related to anything other than xpm or the newport video card. Just some feedback, FWIW: I have the same problem with mozilla-firefox-1.0-r3 and xorg-x11-6.8.0-r3 (with Option "Composite" "Enable" in the "Extensions" Section). For me, $ XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 firefox works perfectly. Thanks for that workaround, Donnie! (In reply to comment #11) I have the same problem. The proposed solution woks ok. I detect that Mozilla 1.7.8 and epiphany 1.6.0-r3 have same problem and the solution works fine for all it.
