The laptop freezes after the loggin into the root account on the liveCD (2004.3).
This occurs after any I/O operation (like invocing ls etc.).
Try'd using diffrent kernels supplied with liveCD, niether worked.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Loggin into the account
2.Do any disk operation
3.

Actual Results:  
Laptop freeze, no Input/Output response, needed to hard reboot it.

Expected Results:  
Work properly.

The laptop configuration:
Asus M6746NEUH
Intel Centrino 1.7 (Dothan), Intel 855PM and ICH4-PM chipsets.
Redeon 9700 mobility, 512 MB DDR RAM.

Did you try any of the other options, like noapic or acpi=off?  You could also try nosmp.
