Summary: use.defaults missing after profile update
Product: Portage Development Reporter: Stephan Elsner <stephan.elsner>
Component: UnclassifiedAssignee: Portage team <dev-portage>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE
Severity: major
Priority: High
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Whiteboard:
Package list:
Runtime testing required: ---

Description Stephan Elsner 2004-11-15 23:00:21 UTC
After a networkless stage 3 installation, the first emerge sync tells me:

!!! Your current profile is deprecated and not supported anymore.
!!! Please upgrade to the following profile if possible:
default-linux/x86/2004.2
To upgrade do the following steps:
# emerge -n '>=sys-apps/portage-2.0.51'
# cd /etc/
# rm make.profile
# ln -s ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2004.2 make.profile

I did the upgrade steps, and discovered that /etc/make.profile/use.defaults is missing. ufed complains about that.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make stage 3 install without network
2. configure network properly
3. emerge sync
4. notice upgrade message and do the steps
5. emerge ufed
6. ufed

Actual Results:
couldn't open use.defaults at /usr/sbin/ufed line 502

Expected Results:
you know that :-)
Comment 1 Stephan Elsner 2004-11-15 23:03:25 UTC
btw.:
I wonder why the upgrade message appears, I booted and installed from a 2004.2 CD....
Comment 2 Jason Stubbs (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-15 23:05:36 UTC
Yes, the error looks different. It is due to the fact that the first reporter's profile's child-most directory had a make.defaults. The issue is still the same.
