I have found this debian bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=970043 which is related to a https://github.com/codership/galera/issues/558 issue. The debian bug is resolved by a patch, see https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/galera-4/-/commit/19f010d78a98d8c481b57de27b0b59cdad8b979d. However, the patch is crafted from multiple commits already present in galera-26.4.17. There is some chance that this bug was already fixed upstream.
