I have an Rage 128 mobility card in my notebook.
When I compiled gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.9 / 2.6.9-r1 / 2.6.9-r2
then in screen in FB have default 640x400 resolution, and reeeeolution cannot be changed to requested 1400x1050 or 1024x768 in any case.
The same configuration works well in 2.6.8 versions.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9
2. configure and compile
3. run system with new kernel

Actual Results:  
system starts only in resolution 640x400, when resolution is configured as other
(even in configuration of cernel or starting line in grub)
