Bug 699080 – sys-fs/eudev: hotplugging stopped working after recent upgrade

After a recent upgrade hotplugging stopped working. Symptoms are for example that KDE’s device notifier doesn’t show any changes when USB disks are plugged in or removed.

The same problem also applies to changed display configuration. They are not detected by KDE unless I run xrandr manually.

I’ve also recently upgraded to a 5.3 kernel because of issues with my wifi (which were solved by the upgrade). I’ve also tried a 5.2.20 kernel with the same result.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plugin a new USB stick
Actual Results:  
The device is not visible in KDE’s device notifier.

Expected Results:  
The device is visible in the device notifier.

I’ve tried to pin down the problem by using the monitoring commands of the involved utilities:

- "udevadm monitor" shows the appropriate events.
- The syslog shows the add/remove events.
- "dbus-monitor --system" doesn’t show the events.
- "udisksctl monitor" doesn’t show the events.
- "solid-hardware5 listen" doesn’t show any related events.

The only recent upgrade here could have been eudev. Could you please try and check if a downgrade works?

Ok, after downgrading I found out that my kernel was missing CONFIG_FHANDLE after the upgrade and that was the culprit. So eudev 3.5.9 is fine.
