Hi,

I would like to see this been added to the msmtp ebuild (all):

PROVIDE="virtual/mta"

Or is there any specific reason, why this is not added to those ebuilds?

ok.. msmtp doesn't provide /usr/sbin/sendmail, so the package does not provide virtual/mta... :-/
